Medical/Surgical Inpatient Nursing Department

Our 25-bed Inpatient Nursing Department (also referred to as the Medical/Surgical Unit) serves those patients requiring continuous care in a Hospital setting. Patients choose Helen Newberry Joy Hospital & Healthcare Center because we offer quality healthcare, close to home. We provide a wide range of services as one of the most technologically advanced, up-to-date diagnostic centers in the Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

In addition to providing a friendly, comfortable atmosphere, our experienced nurses and patient care staff deliver expert care, addressing not just our patients' medical or surgical condition, but their personal needs as well.

In January 2000, Helen Newberry Joy Hospital & Healthcare Center was designated a Critical Access Hospital (CAH). This was due, in part, to our rural location and the distance from Newberry to other hospitals, both in the Upper Peninsula and Lower Peninsula of Michigan. What does being a Critical Access Hospital mean for you as a patient?  First and foremost, it means that you can rely on HNJH to provide for your medical needs now and well into the future. You can also expect to see regular advancements in technology, staff training, and physician recruitment.
