This course is designed to equip EMS professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to become an EMS Instructor Coordinator (IC). Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the Michigan EMS I/C Exam. The course follows the National Traffic Safety Administration Curriculum for EMS instructors, ensuring comprehensive coverage of essential topics.

Course Overview

Approved by the Michigan Department of Community Health EMS & Trauma Systems Section, this course prepares students for entry-level EMS instruction roles in both private and public educational settings. Graduates will be eligible to take the State of Michigan Instructor Coordinator (IC) written examination for licensure.

Student Evaluation:

Students will be evaluated on core competencies including didactic performance (both classroom and internship) and student teaching. An 80% or higher is required to receive a certificate of completion and to be eligible for State licensure. The instructor apprenticeship is graded on a pass/fail basis, with evaluations based on attendance, attitude, and skills performance by instructor mentors and/or the course instructor.

Applicant 
Prerequisites

  • Have three (3) years of experience as a licensed MFR, EMTB, EMTS, or Paramedic (proof of experience required).
  • Be currently licensed as an MFR, EMTB, EMTS, or Paramedic in good standing with the State of Michigan.
  • Hold current BLS Healthcare (CPR) certification.
  • Provide two (2) letters of recommendation from a currently licensed EMS instructor/coordinator.
  • Have access to a working computer with internet connectivity.
  • Be proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.

Registration

Class size is limited to 15 participants. Applications may be picked up at the Luce County Ambulance Building. The course fee is $250.00 per person, payable to Luce County Ambulance Service, and is due before the start of the class.
