Answers to Common Questions Before Surgery
Do I need a referral for surgery?
Most procedures require a referral from your primary care physician. Our team will help guide you through the process.
How far in advance should I schedule my surgery?
We recommend scheduling as soon as your physician recommends the procedure to allow for pre-op testing and planning.
Will I need to stay overnight?
Some procedures are outpatient and allow you to go home the same day, while others may require an overnight stay. Your surgeon will review this during consultation.
What happens after surgery if I live outside Newberry?
Our team coordinates post-operative care, including local rehab and follow-up instructions to minimize travel.
What precautions should I take before surgery?
Follow your pre-op instructions carefully, which may include fasting, medication adjustments, or pre-surgery lab tests. Our team will provide all guidance.

When the Surgery Department receives the referral for your surgery, a member of our team will call you to schedule your procedure. Pre-surgery coordinators will provide each patient with instructions before their surgery and answer any questions the individual or family may have. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), specialized OR staff, and experienced surgeons ensure the highest level of quality is maintained. Post-operative follow-up and communication provide patients with information about what to expect after surgery, including details about medications, pain management, and signs to watch for that could indicate a post-surgical problem or issue.
